Executive burnout therapy for leaders, professionals and high-pressure roles

I support executives, senior leaders, business owners, healthcare professionals and high-responsibility people across Stockton-on-Tees, Wynyard, Yarm, Middlesbrough and Teesside who look capable on the outside but feel depleted, wired, detached or close to shutdown inside.

Rachel Selmes, professionally known as Rachel Hillerby | MSc Occupational Therapy | HCPC Registered OT58735 | EMDR Europe Practitioner | 20+ years NHS experience | 10+ years Occupational Health experience at North Tees and Hartlepool

When leadership becomes survival

The higher your responsibility, the harder it can be to find a place where you do not have to lead, reassure, decide or perform. Burnout can look like irritability, emotional numbness, panic, insomnia, brain fog, decision fatigue, loss of confidence, moral injury, dread before work or a sense that your capacity has quietly disappeared.

My role is to offer a private, clinically grounded space where the pressure can be understood properly, not minimised as ordinary stress.

Why my background matters

I am an Occupational Therapist as well as an EMDR practitioner. I also worked for over 10 years in Occupational Health while in North Tees and Hartlepool. That means I understand work, function, absence, return-to-work, role pressure, adjustment, burnout risk and the gap between what a person appears to be managing and what their nervous system is actually carrying.

Problems high-pressure professionals often search for

Why can I not switch off?

Your nervous system may be stuck in threat mode after prolonged responsibility and pressure.

Why am I exhausted but wired?

Burnout often creates a mix of depletion and hyperarousal, where rest no longer feels restorative.

Why have I lost confidence at work?

Decision fatigue, moral injury and chronic stress can affect clarity, confidence and professional identity.

Can EMDR help burnout?

EMDR may help where burnout is linked with traumatic incidents, moral injury, shame, fear or repeated workplace stress.

Am I burnt out or depressed?

There can be overlap. Therapy helps us understand patterns, risk, function and what support is appropriate.

How do I recover without falling apart?

Recovery can be paced, private and practical, with attention to daily function and work realities.

A discreet private sanctuary for recovery

Believe EMDR is based in a private garden practice in Billingham village, within reach of Wynyard, Yarm, Norton, Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough. The setting is intentionally quiet, with off-road parking and no public waiting room.

In therapy we may work with stress physiology, burnout patterns, moral injury, workplace trauma, self-worth, anxiety, panic attacks, sleep, boundaries and recovery. If EMDR is appropriate, we use it carefully to process stuck experiences that keep your system activated.

Executive burnout questions

Is burnout therapy confidential?

Yes. Private therapy is confidential, with the usual legal and safeguarding limits. The practice is designed to feel discreet and private.

Can you support NHS or healthcare staff?

Yes. My NHS and Occupational Health background means I understand healthcare pressure, professional responsibility, absence, return-to-work and emotional load.

Is this the same as workplace support?

No. This page is for private one-to-one therapy. Workplace mental health support is a separate organisation-level service.

Where are sessions held?

Sessions are held in Billingham village, supporting clients from Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Wynyard, Yarm and wider Teesside.

You do not have to hold the whole weight alone

A private consultation can help us decide whether EMDR-informed burnout recovery is the right support.
